Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani Lauded By Top Law Graduate; News Article Released

 Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has been working for the welfare of the Zambian nation for a long time. Since his early establishments and early successes, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has been actively involved in philanthropic and charitable activities. These contributions range from education, societal, community and environmental protection. Most of his contributions are private and Dr. Mahtani hardly advertises his contributions and philanthropic activities. Dr. Rajan Mahtani  has been actively involved in the educational sector with significant contributions. 


One of the major contributions by Dr. Rajan Mahtani in the educational field was the establishment of the Steven Malama Award. This award was established by Finance Bank Zambia which is chaired by Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. The award was established in the year 2013 in the memory of the late Steven Malama, a noted law professional and distinct member of the bar. To honour the several contributors of Malama who has been a role model for many legal professionals, this award is given on an yearly basis to the top graduating student from the ZIALE (Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education). The winning graduate must also qualify for the Bar in their first attempt for being eligible for the award. For the year 2019, this award was received by Emmanuel Bwalya Kaluba. To share his gratitude, Emmanuel shared an article in the ‘Reader’s Forum’ section of the Daily Mail. In this article, Emmanuel thanked Dr. Rajan Mahtani for his significant contribution and recognising the talent, passion and dedication of the graduating law students. The award carries a plaque, a certificate as well as prize money worth K15,000 which has solved financial burden for many students from less privileged sections.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani Looks To Continue His Fight For The Zambezi Portland

Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted figure in Zambia. He is responsible for various businesses in Zambia as well as across foreign nations too. Some of his top companies are Finsbury Investment and Mahtani Group of Industries. He is also the ex-chairman of Finance Bank Zambia and legal owner of the Zambezi Portland Cement, for which he is fighting for the past 10 years. The fight starts when the Ventriglias tool over the factory illegally. Since then, a case was launched at the Lusaka High Court. At the same time, the Ventriglias claimed that the shared owned by Dr. Mahtani were not paid for. This and the continued transfer of judges or unavailability of the defendants (the Ventriglias) during court proceedings have resulted in one of the longest pending high-profile court cases in Zambia.

Going by the internal reports, it can be said that the actual facts are very much different from what is being portrayed by the media, especially those conspiring against Dr. Mahtani and his companies. As per the official statement presented by the court, Dr. Mahtani and his team have submitted various evidence to support their claim. One of them is signed shareholder’s agreement that clearly indicates Dr. Mahtani’s 58 percent shares in the factory. This statement has been accepted by the court. Major evidence was the audit report by independent auditor clearly stating the project as a joint venture and Dr. Mahtani as the sole joint venture partner.

The high court has announced closing this case soon. Documents and evidence from both sides will be evaluated and final judgement will be given soon.

Conspirators Of Dr. Rajan Mahtani Stepping Back With Lusaka Hc’s Announcement

Since the latest announcement made by Lusaka High Court regarding Zambezi Portland Cement, the conspirators of Dr. Mahtani and his companies have stepped back. The main reason attributed can be the announcement by the judge handling this case and the possible consequences of the case. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted figure in Zambia. His establishments are well known and his companies have won major awards for their steady success and honesty contribution to the society. Even Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted philanthropist and has been involved in various charitable activities across the nation. In spite of his honest works and dedication towards the development and growth of the Zambian economy, he has been frequently targeted by those who are either jealous of his achievement or want to make profits out of his misery. Among them are the notorious Ventriglias who have been accused of illegally taking over Zambezi Portland Cement. 


The incident occurred almost nine years back and since then, Dr. Mahtani has been fighting a long fight at the court to gain back his rightful ownership at the bank. Over the course of last few months, he has submitted various evidences and reports stating his ownership. Some of them were signed shareholder agreement stating his 58 percent shares at the factory and audit report that clearly indicates that he is the sole joint venture partner of the factory. While the Ventriglias have counter claimed that the shares of Dr. Mahtani are not paid, but they have not been able to submit any evidence to support their claim. The judge will announce final judgement soon, once the evidence from both parties is thoroughly checked.
