The latest information shared by the Lusaka High Court is indeed good news for Dr. Mahtani and his team. He is a noted individual and businessman in Zambia and has been fighting this case for more than nine years now. He has claimed that the Ventriglias have illegally taken over the factory illegally. On the other hand, the Ventriglias have claimed that Dr. Mahtani or his company Finsbury Investments have not paid for the shares of ZPC. As a result of various issues and lack of support, the case is still pending at the court.
While the case is going on, the major sufferer is the Zambezi Portland Factory and all those associated with the factory. Since its inception and till the time the factory was under Dr. Mahtani’s leadership, it blossomed and the productions were surplus. The factory was earning well which was evident with the more than average salaries given to its employees. During this time, the factory also became a preferred employer in the province and more people were willing to work to improve their life as well as increase the productivity of the factory. There were even talks to expanding the factory production and taking it to other provinces. However, the same cannot be said now as the condition of the factory is critical. The factory cash box has been emptied by the goons and the machines have started to erode. Workers have either left due to non-payment of wages or are still working in the hope of getting their wages back.
It is time for the judge to look into these matters and provide sound judgment by giving the property right to its legal owner, Dr. Mahtani.
