Zambezi Portland Cement, a cement manufacturing plant in
Ndola, increased its monthly cement manufacturing by three thousand tonnes for
servicing the growing local demand of commodity. The chief financial officer of
Zambezi Portland Cement, Peter
Kang’ombe, in an interview said that the cement manufacturing firm has
increased its monthly production from thirty-six thousand tones to thirty-nine
thousand tones in the recent past months but still the demand for the commodity
in the local market remained high, compelling Zambezi Portland Cement to reduce
the cement exports by ten percent of the monthy output.
Kang’ombe said, “This quarter, we have increased our monthly
production to 39,000 tonnes from 36,000 tonnes, in line with the growing market
demand for cement locally. We have also cut down on exports by 10 per cent,
with the main outside market being the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) due
to its proximity.”
According to Kang’ombe, most of the cement from Portland Cement Zambia was being used
in the Kalumbila Mine project by FQM (First Quantum Minerals) in Solwezi. No
matter what the market situation is, Zambezi Portland Cement did not make any
adjustments to the wholesale price of its cement. The price of 50kg bag of
cement that’s manufactured by ZPC is K55 in the local market while that of
commodity sold in huge volume is K1, 100 each tonne.
The cement manufacturing firm consistently operated all
through the year and the workforce of the plant was even well-maintained to
ensure efficiency and production. The
company actually started to produce cement in the year 2009 from the month of
October. Today, Portland Cement Zambia manufactures 1400 tonnes cement every
day in Ndola.
